Another sad passing

Monday, July 28th, 2008

One of my hero’s, Randy Pausch, passed today. His anecdote about brick walls is brilliant:

“. . . brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something.”

A recent post in New York Times includes a brief bio about Randy. The USA Today has an obituary.

Thanks to Jaysen for alerting me and commenting on an earlier entry on my site.

A few more days

For anyone interested in why I keep cracking ribs ( almost 100 percent  back from the second time now ), here’s a video on youtube of the class I train with. And yes, I’m absent from the show ;-)

Dogs of War

Allegedly British SAS troops are performing HALO–which stands for High Altitude Low Opening–training jumps with dogs. So careful with that pooch, Eugene.

The Sun includes a PhotoShopped picture in the article. Poor doggie doesn’t even have goggles. Yeah, right.

Despite all odds, I survived the worst week of my working life. For various reasons, it’s inappropriate to comment in detail, but let’s just say I spent over two hours at a lawyers office Thursday morning, and another one today.

A key shift in the conversation:

Lawyer: Look, you dont’ have to be scared by me because I’m a lawyer.

Sam: No, sir. I’m scared because you are a Marine.

At this point everyone in the room laughed, including the hard-ass 600 dollar an hour solicitor who lobbed bombs at me.

Later I was told there had been real concern among the higher-ups as to whether or not I could handle the intensity of the questioning. But the bosses and legal beagles are happy now.

I thought the picking in NJ were slim
