{"id":10318,"date":"2004-11-24T08:28:07","date_gmt":"2004-11-24T08:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/samhilliard.com\/wordpress?p=10318"},"modified":"2006-11-19T10:10:22","modified_gmt":"2006-11-19T15:10:22","slug":"41-cents-41-cents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.samhilliard.com\/wordpress\/2004\/11\/24\/41-cents-41-cents\/","title":{"rendered":"41 cents, 41 cents?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was all smiles with the a splendid and overdue <a href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&#038;cid=514&#038;e=3&#038;u=\/ap\/20041124\/ap_on_en_tv\/tv_rather\">resignation of Dan Rather<\/a>, now it&#8217;s all cries over the <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2004\/11\/24\/news\/economy\/postal_hike.reut\/index.htm\">latest assault on decency.<\/a>    For what seems like the fourth time in a six years the Post Office announced a rate increase on first class stamps, effective in 2005.  This sets the toll to 41 cents.  How precious.<\/p>\n<p>Every few years costs increase across the board, Amtrak goes bankrupt, and the Postal Service raises rates.  Thank goodness for consistency.<\/p>\n<p>Well instead of grumbling from my armchair at this affront, I have a plan.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow as I send two turkeys into the long goodnight, lowering them slowly into a stainless steel container filled with boiling peanut oil, I shall give thanks for the eight notches on my frying belt.
