678 entries

So far 678 readers entered the publisher sponsored contest on GoodReads.com for a chance at one of five free copies of The Last Track. Still four days left in the giveaway. Quite a bit better turnout than I expected.

Much thanks to Cyndy for the suggestion.

I believe the writer has two jobs. First, get out of the way of the story and let the characters do theirs. Second, and more importantly, listen to what readers have to say about the story, because well, they tend to have a lot of great ideas.

More importantly, readers actually pay for books.

You’re welcome! I’m glad the giveaway is going so well! I’ll admit when I made the suggestion I was a teeny bit scared it’d backfire on me and then I’d be this loser who suggested a way to generate buzz and there would be no buzz. It was kind of like those “naked in front of a group of people in a stressful moment of life” nightmares…except without any of those things.

Also, I think I know of an “author” who does not seem to understand this reader concept thing. Schooling is desperately in need, I do think.

Well, whatever happened, it would have been worth trying.

And I meant what I said about listening to readers. Several significant plot points in The Last Track were suggested by those reading one of the many drafts.

If you have any other ideas, this door is always open.

Wow, I shouldn’t comment when on migraine meds…I don’t even understand me, and I wrote that!

I’ll keep that in mind. :)

I’ve just started blogging (having converted my existing static site to WordPress), and I’ve been following your advice very closely. As a professional copywriter of over 10 years’ experience, I admire your model of providing high quality content as the basis of everything you do, and will try to emulate this approach on my blog.
