King Kong

Never thought I could care about an ape after Planet of the Apes, but by the end, I rooted for the big guy.

What works about this movie:
1) Cast
2) Director
3) Story
4) Writing

I loved it. Peter Jackson is my hero.

Verdict: If you haven’t seen it on the big screen, please do, and buy the DVD. Because Peter Jackson deserves enough money to buy his own planet.

It’s not often Hollywood gets a picture so right. I like to praise them when I should.

Exactly. It’s easy to blast Hollywood; they make such an easy target (and granted, it’s usually warranted). So it’s nice to see them get it right for once.

The thing I enjoyed most about Kong is that Jackson made the big guy a character rather than just an animal (and a CG one at that). It would’ve been an easy out to show the big bad humans attacking the poor animal, but he managed to make it even more gut-wrenching, almost like torturing another person. That’s the way it seemed to me, anyway.

And those giant bugs were damn creepy. I can’t wait for Darabont to start filming his adaptation of King’s The Mist.

Ian, I concur on all counts; the insects were creepy; the ape was positively human; Darabont is a good match for The Mist.

Whatever they spent getting Kong right, it was worth every cent.
